David Rutley MP

David Rutley was selected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Macclesfield following Sir Nicholas Winterton’s decision to retire. He was selected by local residents who attended the Open Primary at Fallibroome High School in October 2009.

Speaking after his selection, David said, “It’s a huge honour to be the Member of Parliament for Macclesfield. I will be a strong voice for Macclesfield and stand up for local residents. I am committed to serving every constituent regardless of their political views”.

Surgeries

David is holding regular surgeries in Macclesfield and around the Constituency; telephone 01625 422848 for further details or to make an appointment.

Real world experience

David is an experienced businessman, with an active family life. His wife, Rachel, is a physiotherapist and they have four young children under twelve - two boys and two girls.

David believes that Parliament needs more people with “real world” experience. He has spent most of his career in business and has been a senior executive in companies like Asda (where he ran the Home Shopping and E-commerce business) and PepsiCo International, and, in recent years, Halifax General Insurance and Barclays.

He has also worked as a Special Adviser in the last Conservative Government at the Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture. During this time, David helped shape the Budget and initiated the first ever White Paper for rural England. He was also a Parliamentary Candidate in St Albans. David is committed to using this experience to fight for local businesses, to revitalise Macclesfield’s town centre, to tackle traffic congestion in areas like Poynton and Disley, and to keep health care local at Macclesfield Hospital.

Rural life

Having been brought up in a village and then in a market town, David also believes that protecting the countryside and the area’s unique rural communities is a real priority. So, he will campaign to protect Post Offices, village schools, shops and to improve the quality of rural services.

David enjoys spending time in the Peak District, rock climbing on local crags and enjoying family walks and will fight to safeguard this wonderful countryside.

Strong communities

Voluntary community work has always been a priority for David. He has established a charity for disadvantaged children and organises action projects to support a number of charities, most recently helping adults with learning difficulties. David believes that strong communities are vital and he will work closely with local voluntary organisations who do so much for our area.
